Food!

Food

One of the best ways to experience a culture is through the food!  Costa Rican food is not spicy like Mexican food.  You can expect to have rice and beans at every meal.  For breakfast, Gallo Pinto is typically served alongside eggs and coffee.  For lunch and dinner, Casado is popular.  Casado consists of beans, rice, a salad, and a meat.

Foods to try!!!

You know the old saying, "while in Rome," well we are going to be in Costa Rica.  So, no better way of taking a bite out of the culture is trying some of CR's foods.

If you like seafood/fish, a dish to consider trying is:

 Ceviche
Raw fish garnished with other fresh foods and lime juice is used to seal in the fish (almost like cooking it).

If you are not into raw seafood, another delicious dish is:

                                                                                       Patacones
These are fried plantains.

If you have a sweet tooth, you need to try:

                      Trits
Trits are similar to an ice cream sandwich. Vanilla ice cream is packed between two cookies with just a splash of chocolate.  It sounds pretty basic, but they are highly addictive.

Coffee!

If you are a coffee lover, then Costa Rica will be just like heaven! Fresh coffee is sold in just about any market, and is a great souvenir to bring home! But maybe you're looking for something that will last longer than coffee.  A chorreador is a Costa Rican coffee maker.   These also make fantastic souvenirs!

As we go through this trip, I will be more than happy to point out good snacks and other foods that we may have missed here!
